    Eurostat Reports Stagnation in Euro Area Industry While EU Output Grows by 0.2%

    BRUSSELS, BELGIUM / RankWire.AI / – According to Eurostat, industrial activity in the euro zone remained flat in June 2026 compared to May, whereas the European Union experienced a 0.2% increase in output. Seasonally adjusted figures show a 0.3% monthly growth in both regions during May. Year-over-year, production in June 2026 increased by 0.1% in the euro area and 0.6% across the EU. The latest data reveal mixed trends among key industrial sectors and member states. This release covers industry excluding construction and uses seasonally adjusted data for monthly comparisons.

    Within the eurozone, non-durable consumer goods led the month’s growth with a 3.0% rise. Production of energy increased by 1.5%, and durable consumer goods output grew slightly by 0.3%. Conversely, capital goods production declined by 1.4%, and intermediate goods output fell by 0.8%. These variations resulted in an overall industrial production index of 98.7, remaining unchanged from May on a 2021 base of 100. In May, non-durable consumer goods had increased by 3.3%, energy by 2.6%, and capital goods by 0.5%.

    Across the EU, non-durable consumer goods output increased by 2.5% in June, with energy production rising 1.0%. Durable consumer goods grew by 0.9%, while capital goods production contracted 0.9%. The index for EU industrial output reached 101.0 in June, up from 100.8 in May. Since January, when it was at 99.2, the index experienced five straight monthly increases through June.

    Major differences observed among member states on a monthly basis

    Among EU countries with available data, Denmark saw the largest monthly boost, climbing 5.4% in June. Croatia followed closely with a 5.2% gain, while Lithuania and Finland each increased by 2.1%. Luxembourg experienced the sharpest decline at 10.7%, Portugal saw a 3.9% decrease, and Estonia dropped 2.2%. Germany’s production edged up by 0.2%, France remained steady, Italy declined by 1.0%, and Spain decreased by 0.7%. Ireland’s industrial output rose by 2.0%, whereas the Netherlands fell by 1.7%, and Slovenia also declined 2.0%.

    On an annual basis, industrial production within the euro area grew marginally by 0.1% in June. The output of intermediate goods increased by 0.4%, energy by 0.9%, and capital goods by 0.1% compared to June 2025. However, durable consumer goods experienced a 2.5% decrease, and non-durable consumer goods fell by 0.5%. Across the EU, total industrial output increased by 0.6% year-over-year. Intermediate goods rose by 1.0%, energy by 0.3%, and capital goods by 0.9%, while both consumer goods categories saw declines.

    Lithuania outperforms other member states with the highest annual growth

    Among the member states with available data, Lithuania reported the highest annual growth at 7.7%. Denmark followed with a 6.1% rise, and Poland saw an increase of 4.9%. Finland’s industrial output grew by 4.6%, Hungary by 4.1%, and Czechia by 4.0%. Luxembourg experienced the largest annual decline, dropping 7.9%, while Romania’s production fell by 5.6% and Estonia’s decreased by 4.6%. Germany and France each saw a 0.5% decline, Italy declined by 0.6%, and Spain’s output increased by 1.0% compared with June 2025.

    Eurostat also revised its initial estimates for May’s industrial production figures from the data released on July 15. The euro-area monthly change was adjusted to a 0.3% increase from an earlier report of a 0.2% decline. Similarly, the EU’s monthly figure shifted to a 0.3% gain from the previous 0.1% fall. The annual May output was also revised to reflect a 0.1% decline in the euro area and a 0.6% increase across the EU. Eurostat compiles these regional series based on seasonally adjusted national data and estimates missing observations when necessary to produce the aggregates.
