CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has unveiled the iPhone Duo, marking the company’s first foldable iPhone model, with U.S. prices beginning at $1,999. The company revealed the device on Sept. 9 at its Cupertino headquarters. CEO John Ternus introduced the new device as part of the latest hardware lineup. Preorders are set to open on Oct. 16 across more than 70 countries and regions, with the initial units expected to reach customers and stores on Oct. 23.

Designed in a book-style form factor, the iPhone Duo features two Super Retina XDR displays. When closed, a 5.4-inch screen manages everyday phone functions. The device’s casing is crafted from Grade 5 titanium, and its hinge comprises over 100 components. Additionally, the phone holds an IP68 certification for splash, water, and dust resistance.
Apple has optimized its mobile software to leverage the expanded foldable display. The device will ship with iOS 27.1, which includes functionalities tailored for the new screen format. Users can run two apps side by side and save preferred app combinations. When opened, the iPhone Duo can display two Home Screen pages simultaneously. For biometric security, Touch ID is embedded in the side button, enabling fingerprint authentication in both configurations.
Foldable Screen Boosts Multitasking and Camera Capabilities
The rear camera system includes a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera and a 48-megapixel Fusion Ultra Wide camera. The main camera features an optical-quality 2x telephoto lens and zero shutter lag support. Before capturing, users can preview selfies taken with the rear cameras on the external display. Duo Preview also allows subjects to see the frame while another individual operates the camera. Video recording reaches 4K at up to 120 frames per second with Dolby Vision support.
Powering the foldable iPhone is Apple’s A20 Pro processor paired with a dual-battery setup. A custom vapor chamber manages heat during intensive activities. Apple estimates up to 31 hours of video playback when using the inner display, increasing to 44 hours on the outer screen. The device also supports rapid wired and wireless charging, along with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread connectivity options.
Pricing, Storage Options, and Global Launch Schedule
Available with storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB, the iPhone Duo can be chosen in star white or night sky finishes. The starting price is $1,999 in the United States and AED 8,499 in the UAE. After initial preorders begin one week earlier, sales will officially start on Oct. 23. Subsequently, on Oct. 30, Apple plans to expand availability to an additional 28 countries and regions. The device’s worldwide launch includes an eSIM-only design, adopted globally for this model.
